Ayodhya, the revered city of Lord Ram, is set to create history once again with its grand Deepotsav celebrations, as the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department prepares to light over 26 lakh earthen lamps across the ghats of the Saryu River, Ram Ki Paidi, and surrounding areas. The spectacle aims to set a new Guinness World Record while showcasing Ayodhya’s cultural magnificence and spiritual legacy.
Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh said preparations are underway on an unprecedented scale to ensure that this year’s event surpasses all previous editions. “This year, more than 26 lakh diyas will be lit to set a new Guinness World Record. Additionally, the largest-ever aarti will be performed on the banks of the Saryu,” Singh announced. He emphasized that the celebration would not only highlight Ayodhya’s cultural identity but also strengthen its global recognition.
Since 2017, Ayodhya has been hosting the Deepotsav, which has gained international acclaim. Last year, the city set a Guinness World Record by lighting over 25 lakh diyas, turning the Saryu ghats into a glowing sea of lights. This year’s attempt aims to surpass that milestone with an even larger display of devotion. Officials confirmed that over 1,100 saints, spiritual leaders, and locals will take part in the mega aarti, making it the most divine celebration yet, especially after the consecration of the Ram temple earlier this year.

Preparations for the event will begin three days in advance with meticulous planning of design and layout to comply with Guinness standards. Thousands of volunteers, including students, will assist in decorating, arranging, lighting, and verifying diyas as part of the record-setting effort. The tourism department is working closely with the district administration, Avadh University, and other institutions to ensure flawless execution.
Principal Secretary for Tourism and Culture Mukesh Kumar Meshram highlighted that the Deepotsav reflects India’s timeless cultural and spiritual traditions. “This year, the celebrations are being planned on a much larger scale to showcase Ayodhya’s devotion and heritage to the world,” he said.
Authorities anticipate lakhs of devotees and tourists from across India and abroad to gather for the spectacle. Security agencies will deploy additional forces, install surveillance systems, and set up medical response teams to ensure safety, comfort, and smooth management of the historic event.
