New Delhi: An IndiGo flight from Delhi to Kolkata, flight 6E 6571, faced a mid-air disturbance on Monday, September 1, when a lawyer allegedly under the influence of alcohol started chanting “Har Har Mahadev” and encouraged fellow passengers to join in. The passenger, seated in 31D, reportedly misbehaved with the cabin crew and disturbed co-passengers during a 30-minute delay at the parking bay and after take-off.
IndiGo described the incident as a case of “unruly behaviour” and handed the passenger over to security upon landing in Kolkata. The airline stated that the individual appeared to carry a soft drink bottle containing alcohol, which he reportedly consumed onboard and subsequently made an objectionable remark toward a crew member. IndiGo lodged a formal complaint and reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy toward disruptive or abusive conduct, emphasizing its commitment to a safe and respectful environment.
The lawyer, however, denied consuming alcohol on the flight, claiming he had only consumed a beer at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport prior to boarding, showing the purchase receipt as evidence. He also stated that chanting “Har Har Mahadev” was not religiously motivated and accused the airline staff of harassment and denial of services.
According to The Times of India, both the crew and the passenger have filed complaints regarding the incident. The matter is currently under investigation.
