Air India Flight Returns to Delhi After Engine Fire Warning

An Air India flight bound for Indore from Delhi was forced to return to the national capital on Saturday after the cockpit crew received a fire warning for the right engine shortly after takeoff. Following standard safety procedures, the crew shut down the affected engine and safely landed the aircraft back in Delhi, the airline said in an official statement.

The flight, AI2913, operating on August 31, was grounded for a detailed inspection after the incident. Air India confirmed that all passengers were safe and arrangements were being made to accommodate them on an alternative aircraft to continue their journey to Indore.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has been informed about the occurrence. “Flight AI2913, operating from Delhi to Indore on August 31, air-returned to Delhi shortly after takeoff, as the cockpit crew received a fire indication for the right engine,” the airline said in its statement.

This comes weeks after another Air India incident on August 22, when a Mumbai-Jodhpur flight aborted takeoff due to operational reasons. The cockpit crew discontinued the takeoff run following standard operating procedures and returned the aircraft to the bay. Passengers were later flown on an alternate flight.

Meanwhile, Air India recently received a warning from DGCA over violations of flight time regulations. The regulator directed the airline to strictly comply with aviation safety norms. A show-cause notice was also issued to Air India on June 20 under the Enforcement Policy and Procedures Manual (EPPM).
