Akhilesh Yadav Slams BJP Over Silence on Lawyer Akhilesh Dubey’s Arrest

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led Uttar Pradesh government over the arrest of Kanpur-based lawyer Akhilesh Dubey, who is alleged to have close ties with the ruling party. Yadav questioned why, despite the serious allegations against Dubey, the government has not taken bulldozer action as it does against political opponents.

According to an SIT investigation, Dubey allegedly encroached on government land worth nearly ₹2,500 crore to operate schools and guest houses. The probe also revealed an extortion racket that used over 54 fabricated rape and POCSO cases to blackmail individuals for money and property settlements. Innocent people were reportedly jailed under these false charges, while Dubey’s network allegedly collected crores through intimidation tactics.

One case highlighted in the SIT report involved BJP leader Ravi Satyija, who was allegedly trapped in a false rape complaint during a property dispute. Satyija later admitted to paying money under pressure to resolve the matter. Despite five FIRs filed against Dubey, locals claim that police action has slowed in the last five days due to his strong political connections and alleged influence over senior officers.

Yadav accused the administration of adopting double standards by sparing BJP associates from bulldozer action while using it aggressively against opposition leaders. The controversy has sparked a debate on whether the state government will take decisive action or continue shielding Dubey.
