21-Year-Old Kanpur Student Mauled by Stray Dogs, Receives 17 Stitches

Kanpur: In a horrifying incident in Uttar Pradesh, a 21-year-old student, Vaishnavi Sahu, was brutally attacked by stray dogs in the Shyam Nagar area of Kanpur on August 20. The final-year BBA student of Allen House Ruma College was returning home from college when the attack occurred.

Reports indicate that the dogs dragged Sahu to the ground and mauled her face and body. Her right cheek was severely split, and she also sustained injuries to her nose and other areas. Despite managing to escape temporarily, the dogs chased her again until locals intervened with sticks to drive the animals away. Sahu was rushed to a hospital, where she received 17 stitches on her cheek and nose. Her family has reported that she is still struggling to eat and move her mouth and has urged authorities to take strict action against stray dogs.

The incident comes in the backdrop of recent Supreme Court orders regarding stray dogs. On August 11, a bench directed all stray dogs in Delhi-NCR to be shifted to shelters within eight weeks. The court later modified the order, instructing authorities to release sterilized stray dogs while keeping aggressive and rabid dogs in shelters. The Supreme Court also ordered municipal corporations to create designated feeding areas.
