Trump Appoints Sergio Gor as US Ambassador to India, Lauded as Loyal and Results-Driven Leader

US President Donald Trump has announced Sergio Gor as the next United States Ambassador to India and Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs. This decision, shared via Trump’s social media platform Truth Social, drew praise from senior members of his administration, who described Gor as fearless, loyal, and highly effective.

US Vice President JD Vance expressed confidence in Gor’s appointment, calling him a “fantastic ambassador” and crediting much of the administration’s recent success to Gor’s efforts in the White House. “Sergio is a great guy and will make a fantastic ambassador for our country to India. I’m grateful to POTUS for giving him this new role,” Vance wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said India would be “in safe hands” under Gor’s leadership, while Trump’s advisor Kari Lake called him one of the “most loyal soldiers in President Trump’s MAGA Army.” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent echoed the sentiment, labeling Gor an “outstanding pick” with a record of delivering results.

In his announcement, Trump highlighted Gor’s long-standing role in his campaigns, publishing ventures, and personnel management efforts. As Director of Presidential Personnel, Gor oversaw the hiring of nearly 4,000 “America First” candidates across federal departments. Trump called him a “great friend” and praised his work in fulfilling the administration’s mandate.

Gor also shared his gratitude online, stating that serving the American people has been the honor of his life. “Beyond grateful to @realDonaldTrump for his incredible trust and confidence… It will be the honor of my life to represent the United States!” he wrote.

Gor will succeed Eric Garcetti, who served as Ambassador to India from May 2023 until January 2025. Since Garcetti’s departure, the position has been filled by interim Charge d’Affaires Jorgan K. Andrews.

This appointment comes amid complex US-India relations, particularly on trade issues, including heightened tariffs and penalties related to India’s energy ties with Russia. Gor’s role is expected to be pivotal in navigating these challenges and strengthening bilateral cooperation in the region.
