US-Owned Business Targeted as Russia Launches Massive Strike on Western Ukraine

Russia launched its largest wave of drone and missile attacks since mid-July, targeting multiple regions in Ukraine and killing one person while injuring several others. According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, some of the missiles were directed at a US-owned business in western Ukraine that manufactures everyday products such as coffee machines. The attack wounded 15 people.

Ukrainian officials stated that the strikes demonstrate Moscow’s lack of interest in peace negotiations, despite recent diplomatic efforts led by US President Donald Trump. “The Russians carried out this attack as if nothing has changed at all, as if there are no global efforts to stop this war,” Zelensky said, adding that there is no sign from Moscow of genuine intent to engage in substantive talks.

Ukraine’s air force reported that Russia launched 574 drones and 40 missiles in the overnight assault, with air defense units successfully intercepting 546 drones and 31 missiles. Maksym Kozytskyi, head of the Lviv regional military administration, confirmed that one person was killed and two others were injured in the combined UAV and cruise missile strike, which also damaged dozens of residential buildings.

In Mukachevo, near the Hungarian and Slovak borders, 15 people were wounded, five of whom are currently hospitalized. Western Ukraine has been less frequently targeted during the war, which began in 2022 and has seen Russia seize vast areas in the south and east.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga condemned the attacks, stating there was “no military logic or necessity,” describing them as “pure terror against civilians.” Meanwhile, Russia’s defense ministry claimed it destroyed 49 Ukrainian drones but did not disclose any casualties or damages.

The assault comes shortly after President Trump’s renewed diplomatic push to end the war. The US president recently met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska and later hosted Ukrainian President Zelensky and European leaders in Washington for separate talks. However, Moscow has dismissed the likelihood of a Putin-Zelensky summit anytime soon, emphasizing its demand to be included in discussions on future security guarantees for Ukraine.
