Satish Golcha Appointed Delhi Police Commissioner Following Attack on Chief Minister Rekha Gupta

In a swift administrative move following a high-profile security incident, the Ministry of Home Affairs has appointed Satish Golcha, a senior 1992-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, as the new Commissioner of Delhi Police. This decision comes just a day after Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was attacked by an individual during a public meeting held at her official residence.

Golcha replaces SBK Singh, a 1988-batch IPS officer from the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram, and Union Territories) cadre, who had been serving as the Delhi Police Commissioner in an interim capacity. Singh, who is currently the Director General of Home Guards, took over the Delhi Police portfolio only on August 1, holding the post for a brief period amid growing concerns around public safety and high-level security lapses.

The attack on CM Rekha Gupta has raised serious questions about VIP security arrangements and prompted an immediate review of law enforcement leadership in the national capital. According to officials, the Home Ministry acted promptly to restore public confidence and reinforce Delhi’s security apparatus.

Satish Golcha brings with him vast experience in urban policing, intelligence operations, and administrative leadership. His appointment is seen as a critical step toward enhancing law and order mechanisms, especially in light of recent incidents that have put Delhi Police under the spotlight.

The new Police Commissioner is expected to prioritize VIP protection, public safety reforms, and strengthening coordination between various law enforcement units across the capital.
