A policeman was injured on Tuesday during Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Nawada, Bihar, when a car carrying the Leader of Opposition accidentally ran over the cop’s feet. The incident occurred on a crowded street filled with supporters and security personnel as Mr. Gandhi stood in an open-top jeep.
The vehicle was quickly pushed back by policemen and supporters to free the constable, who was later seen limping away. Rahul Gandhi, after noticing the incident, handed a water bottle to his team to assist the injured policeman and later met him to inquire about his condition.
The BJP seized the opportunity to target Congress, accusing the party of negligence and mocking the event as “Crush Janta Yatra.” BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala alleged, “Rahul Gandhi’s car crushed a police constable, who was critically injured. The dynast did not even get down to check on him.”
The ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra,’ which began in Sasaram on Sunday, is part of the Congress campaign strategy for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections scheduled later this year. The 16-day march will cover more than 1,300 kilometers across 20 districts, including Nalanda, Munger, Bhagalpur, Katihar, Purnea, Darbhanga, Siwan, Chapra, and Ara, before concluding in Patna on September 1. The Congress has positioned the march as a movement to “protect democracy,” echoing Rahul Gandhi’s claim of an alleged conspiracy to steal votes in Bihar.
The political march follows the Bharat Jodo Yatra and Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, which the party credits for boosting its electoral performance in recent polls.
