Five people, including two children, were injured when a high-rise spinning ride crashed at a temple fair in Gujarat’s Navsari district, police said on Monday. The incident occurred around 10:30 pm on Sunday at a fair held on the premises of a temple in Bilimora town.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police B. V. Gohil, a 32-seater spinning ride collapsed during operation, injuring two children, two women, and the ride operator. A video of the mishap has also surfaced on social media.
“At the time of the incident, eight to nine people were seated on the ride. Five of them sustained injuries. Four were taken to a hospital in Bilimora, while the operator, who suffered severe head injuries, was shifted to a hospital in Surat,” Gohil said.
Authorities had permitted seven amusement rides at the fair, and an investigation has been launched into the cause of the accident. Police officers quickly reached the spot to control the situation and prevent any stampede at the crowded venue, he added.
