Several parts of the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR), including Janpath, Lajpat Nagar, and Minto Bridge, witnessed early morning showers on Thursday, a day after the city experienced heavy rainfall. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning across the region throughout the day.
IMD Forecast: Showers Across Delhi-NCR
According to the IMD, Bahadurgarh and Manesar are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall with light thunderstorms and lightning. Light rain is also expected to occur in several other NCR areas including Loni Dehat, Hindon AF Station, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Chhapraula, Noida, Greater Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, and Ballabhgarh.
The weather agency, in a post on X, stated:
“Light to moderate rainfall accompanied with light thunderstorms and lightning is very likely to occur over NCR. Very light rainfall/drizzle is likely to continue across the entire Delhi during the next two hours.”
Rainfall Recorded Across Delhi
From 8:30 AM on Wednesday to 6:30 AM on Thursday, several regions in Delhi recorded significant rainfall:
- Salwan Public School (East Delhi): 42 mm
- Pusa (Central Delhi): 40 mm
- Sports Complex (New Delhi): 38 mm
- Safdarjung (Southwest Delhi): 34 mm
- Najafgarh (Southwest Delhi): 23.5 mm
- Pragati Maidan (Central Delhi): 22.1 mm
- KV Narayana (Delhi): 20.5 mm
- Lodi Road (New Delhi): 18.5 mm
- KV Janakpuri (Delhi): 18 mm
- Ayanagar (Southwest Delhi): 13 mm
Temperature to Stay Below Normal
The IMD also predicted a generally cloudy sky throughout Thursday, with light to moderate showers accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. The maximum temperature is expected to stay between 30°C and 32°C, while the minimum temperature is likely to hover around 23°C to 25°C, both remaining 2°C to 4°C below normal for this time of year.
Residents have been advised to stay alert for waterlogging in low-lying areas and to take necessary precautions during thunderstorms.
