An Indigo flight traveling from Ahmedabad to Diu, carrying 60 passengers, had to abort its takeoff due to an engine fire. The incident occurred during the takeoff roll, prompting an immediate evacuation of the flight.
The aircraft had just begun its takeoff roll when the pilot issued a “Mayday” call to air traffic control. An IndiGo spokesperson stated that the pilots alerted the authorities upon identifying the technical issue.
“A technical snag was detected just prior to takeoff on IndiGo flight 6E 7966, which was operating from Ahmedabad to Diu on July 23, 2025. In accordance with standard operating procedures, the pilots notified the authorities and returned the aircraft to the bay. The aircraft will undergo the necessary inspections and maintenance before it can resume operations,” the IndiGo spokesperson explained.
The incident involved flight ATR76, which was scheduled to leave Ahmedabad airport at 11 am.
“We apologize for the inconvenience caused to our customers and are taking all necessary steps to alleviate it by providing refreshments, accommodation on the next available flight, or a full refund for cancellations, based on their preference,” the statement continued.
This incident follows another occurrence where an IndiGo flight from Goa to Indore faced a technical issue just before landing on Monday. That aircraft landed safely at its destination, and the airline confirmed that it would undergo a comprehensive technical inspection before resuming operations.
