Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to visit Kerala on July 12 to participate in a series of significant political and cultural events throughout the state.
Shah will kick off his day by inaugurating the new Kerala BJP office on the morning of July 12. The inauguration will occur at
KG Marar Road in Thiruvananthapuram and is anticipated to attract senior BJP leaders and party members.
After this event, the minister will speak at the ‘Viksit Keralam Sammelan’ at Putharikandam Maidan in Thiruvananthapuram—viewed as a key outreach effort by the BJP as it seeks to broaden its influence in the southern state.
In the evening, Shah will head to Kannur, where he will pray at the famous Sri Rajarajeshwara Temple in Taliparamba. This temple visit is regarded as part of the BJP’s ongoing connection with the cultural and spiritual heritage of Kerala.
This visit occurs amid escalating political activities in Kerala, with assembly elections anticipated next year as the party aims to invigorate its base.
The next Kerala Legislative Assembly election is projected for May 2026. This election will be conducted to elect 140 MLAs to the 15th Kerala Legislative Assembly. The current term of the Kerala government spans from May 24, 2021, to May 23, 2026.
The forthcoming election is expected to be a tough battle between the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF), led by the Communist Party of India (Marxist), and the opposition United Democratic Front (UDF), spearheaded by the Indian National Congress. At the same time, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is likely to bolster its presence and secure a solid third position.
Additionally, on July 10, the central government approved the allocation of Rs 1,066.80 crore to various states impacted by floods and landslides, including Kerala.
Among the six states affected by floods, Assam received Rs 375.60 crore, Manipur Rs 29.20 crore, Meghalaya Rs 30.40 crore, Mizoram Rs 22.80 crore, Kerala Rs 153.20 crore, and Uttarakhand Rs 455.60 crore from the Central share of the State Disaster Response Fund, as reported by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Emphasizing the Centre’s commitment to supporting the states, Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated in a post on his X handle that “the Modi government stands firmly with the states in every circumstance.”
