On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was awarded ‘The Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago’ (ORTT), the nation’s highest distinction, during a formal ceremony at the President’s House in Port of Spain.
The award was presented to PM Modi by the President of Trinidad and Tobago, Christine Kangaloo, marking him as the first foreign leader to receive this honour. This recognition is the 25th international accolade awarded to PM Modi by a foreign nation.
In a post on X, PM Modi expressed that he accepted the award on behalf of the 140 crore Indians, stating, “I accept it on behalf of 140 crore Indians.”
PM Modi commenced his inaugural official visit to Trinidad and Tobago on Thursday (local time), where he was greeted with a ceremonial Guard of Honour at Piarco International Airport. He was welcomed by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, along with 38 ministers and four Members of Parliament from the Caribbean nation.

The citizens of Trinidad and Tobago welcomed PM Modi with great enthusiasm, celebrating with traditional music and dance that highlighted a fusion of local and Indian cultures.
Additionally, PM Modi engaged with members of the Indian diaspora who had gathered at Piarco International Airport to greet him.
While posting the video on X, PM Modi remarked, “May the friendship between India-Trinidad & Tobago flourish in the times to come! Highlights from a special welcome in Port of Spain.”
