A 55-year-old man from Karnataka who had spent years working in the United Arab Emirates was found murdered in Sharjah, with forensic findings indicating that he died from stab injuries before his body was dismembered and placed inside the trunk of his car. His wife and teenage son remain untraceable, adding to the uncertainty surrounding the case.

The deceased has been identified as Alwin Prashanth Kunder, a native of Udupi district in Karnataka. He had been living and working in the UAE for several years and was employed at Sharjah International Airport for around 14 years.

According to information shared by his family, Kunder was last in direct contact with relatives around July 20. His sudden disappearance raised concern among family members, particularly after communication with him stopped.

Body found inside his own car

The case came to light after attempts were made to locate Kunder following his disappearance. His family reportedly contacted people in Sharjah to find out whether he was still at his accommodation.

A former classmate living in Sharjah visited the accommodation provided by Kunder’s employer. A security official reportedly said that the family had travelled to India. However, checks of passport records indicated that Kunder himself had not left the UAE.

The discrepancy prompted further concern, following which a missing-person report was pursued through relatives. A complaint was also lodged with Udupi Town police in Karnataka.

Authorities in the UAE subsequently traced Kunder’s vehicle. His body was found on August 12 inside the trunk of his sedan. The remains had been dismembered and packed into bags before being placed inside the vehicle.

Forensic findings indicate stab injuries

Forensic findings released by the Sharjah Public Prosecution reportedly established that Kunder suffered two stab wounds to the chest. The findings indicate that the stabbing occurred before his body was dismembered.

The discovery has provided investigators with an important indication of how the death occurred, although several questions surrounding the circumstances of the killing remain unanswered.

The reported findings have also raised questions about where and when the fatal attack took place, who was responsible and what happened to the victim’s family after his disappearance.

Wife and son remain untraceable

Kunder lived in the UAE with his wife, Teena, who worked as a teacher, and their son, who is a Class 10 student.

The whereabouts of both family members remain unknown. Their disappearance has become a significant part of the investigation because they were living with Kunder before contact with him was lost.

Kunder’s brother, Anil Prashanth Kunder, said the family had received his death certificate in recent days. However, his body had not yet been brought back to India.

The family is now awaiting further information from authorities in the UAE regarding the circumstances of his death and the whereabouts of his wife and son.

Karnataka authorities awaiting information

Udupi police have also been monitoring developments in the case. Udupi Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar said local authorities had not yet received detailed information from Sharjah Police or the Indian Consulate regarding the investigation.

The lack of complete information has left several aspects of the case unclear. Investigators are expected to establish the sequence of events leading to Kunder’s disappearance, determine who had access to his vehicle and accommodation, and establish what happened to his wife and son.

The motive behind the alleged killing has not been established publicly.
