The Siddhivinayak Temple Trust in Mumbai has initiated an audit following allegations of donation-related irregularities raised by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray. The move comes after concerns were expressed over the handling of temple donations and the significant rise in the amount collected by the shrine over the past two years.

The Trust stated that the audit has been ordered to examine the increase in donations and ensure complete transparency in the management of funds. Officials said the review process would help verify financial records and address concerns regarding the collection and utilisation of donations received from devotees.

The issue gained attention after Raj Thackeray alleged that there were irregularities involving donations at the famous Siddhivinayak Temple, one of Mumbai’s most visited religious sites. His remarks raised questions about the accountability mechanisms followed in managing the temple’s financial operations.

The Siddhivinayak Temple Trust clarified that action had already been taken in connection with the alleged donation theft case. According to the Trust, eight individuals were arrested during the investigation. However, they were later granted bail by a Mumbai court.

The Trust maintained that it remains committed to maintaining transparency and safeguarding the faith of millions of devotees who contribute donations to the temple. The audit is expected to provide a detailed assessment of the financial records and determine whether any discrepancies occurred in the donation management process.

The Siddhivinayak Temple, dedicated to Lord Ganesha, receives a large number of devotees throughout the year and is known for receiving substantial offerings.
