Delhi Police on Thursday dismissed reports circulating on social media that a female protester injured during a demonstration at Jantar Mantar had died, clarifying that the woman is alive and her health condition has improved.
The police appealed to the public to verify information through reliable and official channels before sharing or forwarding posts online. The clarification came amid widespread discussion on social media surrounding the condition of a 21-year-old woman, identified as Sakshi, who was injured during a protest in the national capital earlier this week.
According to the police, Sakshi is currently undergoing treatment at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in New Delhi. Doctors treating her have reportedly described her condition as stable and confirmed that she is no longer in immediate danger.
The clarification was issued after unverified claims about the woman’s death began circulating online. Delhi Police urged citizens to exercise caution while consuming information on social media, particularly during situations involving protests, public gatherings and law-and-order incidents, where inaccurate reports can spread rapidly.
The police said that responsible use of digital platforms requires users to confirm facts before sharing information. The appeal also highlighted the importance of relying on official updates when dealing with sensitive or rapidly developing incidents.
Woman Shows Significant Improvement After Jantar Mantar Incident
Sakshi had reportedly been admitted to the intensive care unit following injuries sustained during a protest at Jantar Mantar on July 20. Her condition had initially been described as serious, raising concerns among fellow protesters and members of the public.
A subsequent medical update indicated that her health had improved considerably. According to the hospital bulletin, she has been taken off ventilator support and is now breathing independently.
The medical update further stated that Sakshi is conscious and able to respond to commands. Doctors also reported that magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations of her brain and spine did not reveal any abnormality.
The development has provided relief to those who had been following her condition since the incident. It also directly contradicted social media claims suggesting that she had succumbed to her injuries. 
Injured During Stampede-Like Situation
Sakshi was reportedly injured during a chaotic situation that developed at the protest site. According to accounts from people present at the location, a number of protesters fell amid the commotion, resulting in what was described as a stampede-like situation.
One student who assisted Sakshi after she was injured said that she became trapped in the crowd. People at the scene reportedly moved quickly to pull her out and provide immediate assistance.
The student said that two medical students were also present and helped administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) when Sakshi appeared to be in critical condition and was not responding properly.
She was subsequently taken for medical treatment, where she received intensive care and was placed under close observation.

The incident has once again raised concerns about the rapid circulation of unverified information during protests and other public gatherings. With social media platforms allowing information to spread within minutes, reports of injuries, deaths and other developments can quickly gain traction before authorities or medical institutions have confirmed the facts.
