The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced a dedicated helpline to assist protesters associated with the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), offering legal and medical support to those injured during recent demonstrations and to families of individuals who have been detained.

AAP national convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal made the announcement during a press conference on Tuesday, amid a political confrontation over the police action taken during the protests in the national capital. The helpline, according to Kejriwal, is intended to provide immediate assistance to protesters requiring medical attention as well as legal support for families seeking information or assistance following detentions.

Kejriwal strongly criticised the manner in which the protest was handled by the authorities and alleged that excessive force was used against demonstrators. He claimed that young protesters, including students and women, were subjected to police action and described the alleged incidents as deeply disturbing.

The AAP leader said families of protesters should not be afraid and urged them to contact the newly announced helpline if they required assistance. He assured them that his party would attempt to connect affected individuals with legal and medical support.

Kejriwal also made a strong historical comparison while condemning the alleged police response. Referring to the violence witnessed during the freedom struggle, he compared the scenes from the protest to the brutality associated with the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre. His remarks reflected the intensity of the political dispute surrounding the protests and the actions taken by law enforcement agencies.

The former Delhi chief minister alleged that the treatment of protesters was unacceptable in a democratic society. He accused the central government of allowing the use of excessive force against young demonstrators and questioned the manner in which the authorities responded to the protest movement.

During his address, Kejriwal also criticised the government’s approach towards students and protesters. He alleged that while students were being labelled as anti-national, the government had failed to adequately address other issues of public concern, including alleged examination paper leaks. His remarks added a broader political dimension to the ongoing dispute. 

The announcement of the helpline comes at a time when tensions surrounding the CJP protests remain high in Delhi. The demonstrations have drawn significant political attention, with questions being raised over the handling of protest marches and the restrictions imposed by authorities in sensitive areas of the capital.

Kejriwal said he had not personally been able to participate in the protest but revealed that both of his children had joined the march. He used the occasion to reiterate his support for the demonstrators and to assure protesters and their families that the AAP would stand by them.

As part of the party’s response, Kejriwal also announced plans to visit Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and the Parliament Street police station later in the day. The visits are expected to provide an opportunity for him to meet injured protesters and gather information about those who may have been detained during the demonstrations.

The development has further intensified the political debate over the handling of protests in the national capital. While the AAP has accused the authorities of excessive force, the wider dispute continues to unfold amid heightened political activity in Delhi.

The helpline is expected to serve as a channel through which protesters and their relatives can seek assistance following the demonstrations. The move also signals the AAP’s decision to provide organisational support to those affected by the police action while continuing to challenge the government’s approach to the protests.
