Kargil Victory Symbolises India’s Unwavering Resolve Against Every Threat: Rajnath Singh

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday said that India’s victory in the 1999 Kargil War continues to stand as a lasting symbol of the country’s determination, military strength, and unwavering resolve to counter any threat to its sovereignty and territorial integrity. Addressing a gathering ahead of the Kargil Vijay Diwas commemorations, Singh paid tribute to the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the conflict and highlighted the enduring lessons of courage, patriotism, and national unity that emerged from the historic victory.

The Defence Minister said that the Kargil conflict remains one of the defining moments in India’s military history, demonstrating the courage and professionalism of the Indian Armed Forces in reclaiming strategically important mountain peaks occupied by enemy forces. He stated that the victory reflected not only the exceptional capabilities of the armed forces but also the nation’s determination to defend its borders under the most challenging circumstances.

Singh noted that the success of Operation Vijay continues to inspire generations of Indians, particularly young citizens, to uphold the values of patriotism, discipline, and commitment to the nation. He said the sacrifices made by the soldiers during the conflict serve as a reminder that India’s security is built upon the courage and dedication of its armed forces, who remain prepared to respond to every challenge.

Recalling the events of the 1999 conflict, the Defence Minister said that Indian troops displayed extraordinary bravery while fighting in extremely harsh weather conditions and difficult mountainous terrain. Despite significant operational challenges, the armed forces successfully recaptured occupied positions, restoring control over critical areas and reaffirming India’s territorial sovereignty.

Highlighting India’s evolving defence capabilities, Singh said the country has significantly strengthened its military preparedness over the past two decades through modernisation, technological advancements, and enhanced operational readiness. He added that the government remains committed to equipping the armed forces with advanced weapons, improved infrastructure, and indigenous defence technologies to ensure they remain capable of addressing emerging security challenges.

The Defence Minister also emphasised the growing importance of self-reliance in defence manufacturing under the government’s broader vision of strengthening domestic defence production. According to him, increasing indigenous capabilities has improved India’s strategic preparedness while reducing dependence on foreign military equipment.

During his address, Singh stressed that national security remains a top priority and that India is fully capable of protecting its borders against any form of aggression. He asserted that the country possesses both the determination and the capability to respond effectively to evolving threats while maintaining peace and stability in the region.

Paying homage to the soldiers who laid down their lives during the Kargil War, Singh said their supreme sacrifice would always remain a source of inspiration for the nation. He urged citizens to remember the courage displayed by the armed forces and to honour the families of the fallen soldiers whose contributions continue to strengthen India’s national spirit.

The Defence Minister further observed that Kargil Vijay Diwas is not merely a celebration of military success but also an occasion to reaffirm the nation’s gratitude towards its soldiers. He said the day reflects the unity of the people and the collective commitment to safeguarding India’s sovereignty and democratic values.

As India prepares to observe another anniversary of the historic victory, tributes are being paid across the country to the heroes of the Kargil War. Military personnel, veterans, and citizens are expected to participate in commemorative events honouring the bravery, sacrifice, and resilience of the armed forces that secured one of the nation’s most significant military achievements.

The Kargil War remains a defining chapter in India’s defence history, symbolising courage, resilience, and unwavering national resolve. The legacy of the soldiers who fought during the conflict continues to inspire the armed forces and the nation, reinforcing the commitment to protect India’s sovereignty against every challenge.
