Senior Congress leader S. Venugopal has called for a Supreme Court-monitored investigation into alleged irregularities surrounding donations made for the Ram Temple, intensifying the political debate over the management and transparency of funds collected for the prestigious religious project.
The demand comes amid growing scrutiny over how contributions from devotees and supporters have been collected, managed, and utilised in the construction and related activities of the Ram Temple. Venugopal has alleged that questions have emerged regarding the transparency of the donation process and the mechanisms used to handle large-scale public contributions.
According to the Congress leader, the scale of public participation in funding the temple’s construction necessitates a high level of accountability and independent oversight. He argued that only a judicially supervised inquiry can ensure impartiality and restore public confidence in the handling of the donations.
Venugopal has urged that the Supreme Court intervene to appoint a monitored probe that would examine the collection process, accounting practices, and overall financial management related to the donations. He emphasised that the matter involves public trust and religious sentiments, making transparency even more critical.
The Congress leader also suggested that inconsistencies, if any, must be thoroughly investigated and those responsible held accountable under the law. He stressed that the objective of the demand is not to question faith or religious belief, but to ensure that contributions made by millions of devotees are managed responsibly and without irregularities.
The statement is expected to further fuel political discussions between opposition parties and the government over the management of funds associated with the Ram Temple project. Opposition leaders have repeatedly raised concerns about transparency in donation drives, while supporters of the temple administration maintain that all procedures are being conducted in a structured and lawful manner.
As the debate continues, the call for a Supreme Court-monitored probe adds a new dimension to the ongoing political and public discourse surrounding one of the country’s most significant religious and cultural developments in recent years.
