A tragic case of alleged medical negligence has emerged from Bhopal, where a three-year-old child undergoing treatment for blood cancer reportedly lost his life after being administered formalin instead of medication at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhopal.

The incident, which has sparked outrage and raised serious concerns over hospital safety protocols, has led to the registration of a criminal case against two nursing officials following findings from an internal investigation.

Child Was Undergoing Treatment for Blood Cancer

According to investigators, the child had been admitted to the pediatric ward of AIIMS Bhopal in December 2025 for treatment of blood cancer. Family members stated that the young patient was under continuous medical supervision and was responding to treatment.

However, during routine medical care, a serious error allegedly occurred when a nurse used a syringe containing formalin instead of the required intravenous solution.

Formalin is a toxic chemical commonly used for preserving tissue samples, biopsy specimens and cadavers. It is not intended for administration to human patients.

Family Alleged They Raised Concerns

The child’s family claimed they attempted to alert the medical staff before the injection was administered. Despite their concerns, the substance was allegedly injected into the patient’s IV line.

Shortly after the procedure, the child’s condition reportedly deteriorated rapidly. Despite efforts by doctors, the three-year-old succumbed to complications.
