A Bhopal court is set to hear a plea filed by the family of a 33-year-old woman seeking a second post-mortem examination in a suspected dowry death case that has triggered nationwide outrage and intense public scrutiny. The case, involving allegations of dowry harassment, mental abuse, and suspicious circumstances surrounding the woman’s death, has raised serious questions about the ongoing investigation and the handling of forensic evidence.

The woman was found dead at her marital residence in Bhopal earlier this month, just months after her marriage to an advocate from a prominent legal family. Since the incident came to light, the victim’s family has consistently alleged that she was subjected to mental and physical harassment over dowry demands and that the circumstances surrounding her death point toward foul play rather than suicide.

According to legal representatives of the victim’s family, a petition has been filed before the local judicial magistrate requesting a second autopsy to independently verify the cause of death. Family members have publicly demanded an impartial and transparent probe, insisting that an independent forensic review is necessary to uncover the truth.

The investigation has also intensified after reports emerged that the woman’s husband remains absconding. Police teams have reportedly been formed to trace him while legal proceedings continue. Earlier, a court had denied anticipatory bail to the husband in connection with allegations of dowry harassment and abetment linked to the woman’s death.

The case has further sparked controversy due to statements made publicly by members of the accused family. Remarks concerning the victim’s mental health and personal life generated widespread criticism on social media and among political leaders and women’s rights activists. Critics accused the accused family of attempting to malign the deceased woman’s character after her death.
