Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held comprehensive discussions with Vietnam’s Minister of National Defence General Phan Van Giang, reviewing the progress of defence ties and exploring new areas of collaboration under the evolving strategic partnership between the two countries.

Expanding a trusted strategic partnership

The talks highlighted the steady growth of India-Vietnam defence relations, which have developed into an Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership over the years. Both sides acknowledged that defence cooperation has become a central pillar of their broader diplomatic and strategic engagement.

Rajnath Singh noted that the meeting held symbolic significance, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Vietnam’s iconic leader Ho Chi Minh, whose historical connection with India continues to inspire strong bilateral relations.

He emphasized that the partnership has entered a more mature and forward-looking phase, driven by shared regional interests and mutual trust.

Maritime security at the core of discussions

A major focus area of the dialogue was maritime security cooperation in the Indo-Pacific. Both countries discussed enhancing naval collaboration, improving surveillance mechanisms, and ensuring the safety of critical sea lanes that are vital for global trade and regional stability.

The discussions also covered strengthening defence preparedness through joint initiatives, training programs, and capacity-building efforts aimed at improving operational coordination between the two armed forces.  Defence Minister Rajnath Singh arrives in Vietnam on three-d
