The civic administration in Mumbai has announced a 10% reduction in the city’s water supply starting May 15, as a precautionary step aimed at managing limited water reserves and ensuring equitable distribution during periods of heightened demand.

The decision has been taken by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), which oversees water supply operations for the metropolitan region. Officials have described the measure as preventive in nature, intended to maintain stability in the city’s water distribution network rather than respond to an immediate crisis.

Preventive Action Amid Seasonal Demand Rise

According to civic officials, Mumbai typically witnesses a sharp rise in water consumption during the summer months. Higher temperatures, increased domestic usage, and urban demand place additional pressure on reservoirs that supply the city.
