A wedding celebration in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur district descended into chaos and bloodshed after a minor dispute during dinner escalated into a violent clash, leaving one person dead and six others injured. The shocking incident, which reportedly began over spilled chicken curry and arguments among guests, has triggered police action and widespread public attention after videos from the scene surfaced online.

According to police officials, the incident occurred late Friday night at a marriage hall located in the Bichhia area under Shahpur police station limits. The wedding procession had arrived amid music, dancing, and celebrations, but tensions allegedly began brewing during the festivities over disagreements related to DJ music and crowd management.

Authorities said the situation worsened near the dining area where a rush among guests during food service led to pushing and jostling. During the commotion, chicken curry reportedly spilled on the clothes of one of the attendees, triggering a heated verbal exchange between groups present at the function. What initially appeared to be a minor altercation quickly escalated into a large-scale violent confrontation.

Eyewitnesses stated that members from both sides allegedly attacked each other using belts, sticks, bricks, and other objects available at the venue. Panic spread throughout the marriage hall as guests attempted to flee the scene while the fight intensified. The roads and surroundings near the venue were later found scattered with broken bricks and debris, indicating the severity of the violence. 

During the clash, Sumit Kumar, a 26-year-old man who had attended the wedding from the groom’s side, suffered critical injuries. He was rushed to a nearby medical facility and later referred to a government medical college hospital, where doctors declared him dead during treatment. Six other individuals injured in the violence were admitted for treatment and are currently recovering.

Police officials confirmed that multiple teams were deployed to control the situation and launch an investigation immediately after the incident came to light. Based on CCTV footage, witness statements, and preliminary findings, seven accused individuals were arrested in connection with the violence.

Senior police officers stated that strict action was taken following the incident. The local police outpost in-charge was suspended after senior authorities reviewed the handling of security arrangements and response measures related to the case.

Investigators believe that the confrontation intensified due to overcrowding, heightened tensions during the celebrations, and repeated arguments between attendees. Videos allegedly showing the violent scenes later circulated widely on social media, further drawing public attention to the shocking episode.

Family members of the deceased said Sumit Kumar had been married only a few months earlier and had attended the wedding as part of the groom’s procession. His sudden death has left relatives devastated, while local residents expressed concern over increasing incidents of violence erupting during social functions and celebrations.

Police have registered a criminal case and said further investigation is underway to identify additional individuals involved in the attack. Authorities are also examining digital evidence and footage collected from the marriage hall to determine the exact sequence of events that led to the deadly clash.
