Bengaluru Man Duped of ₹4.3 Lakh in Fake US Job Visa Scam

A job aspirant in Bengaluru has fallen victim to a sophisticated overseas employment scam, losing approximately ₹4.3 lakh to fraudsters who falsely promised him a job opportunity in the United States along with visa assistance.

According to police officials, the victim was approached by individuals posing as recruitment agents offering lucrative job opportunities in the United States. The scammers convinced him that they could facilitate employment along with the necessary visa processing, presenting the offer as legitimate and time-sensitive.

Believing the claims, the victim proceeded with the application process and was instructed to pay various charges under different pretexts. These included fees for visa processing, documentation, and other administrative requirements typically associated with international employment.

Over a period of time, the victim transferred a total of ₹4.3 lakh to the accused. The payments were made in multiple instalments, as the fraudsters continued to demand additional funds citing procedural requirements and urgent approvals.

The scam began to unravel when the promised job offer and visa documentation failed to materialize within the stipulated timeframe. Repeated attempts by the victim to contact the agents yielded no satisfactory response.

Eventually, communication from the accused ceased altogether, prompting the victim to realize he had been defrauded. Following this, he approached the police and filed a formal complaint.  Bengaluru man looking for tech jobs in aviation companies scammed of Rs 13 lakh by man posing as recruiter - India Today

Based on the complaint, a case has been registered, and an investigation is currently underway. Authorities are working to trace the accused individuals and track the financial transactions involved in the fraud.

Officials suspect that the scam may be part of a larger network targeting job seekers aspiring to work abroad. Cybercrime units are also likely to be involved in analyzing digital evidence and identifying potential links to similar cases.

Incidents of fraudulent job offers, particularly those involving overseas employment and visa promises, have been on the rise in recent years. Scammers often exploit the aspirations of individuals seeking better career opportunities abroad by posing as legitimate recruiters or immigration consultants.

Such frauds typically involve convincing victims to pay upfront fees for services like visa processing, job placement, travel arrangements, or documentation—services that are either fake or never delivered.

Recent cases in Bengaluru and other cities indicate a pattern where victims are lured through online platforms, emails, or social media, highlighting the growing sophistication of these scams.

Authorities have urged job seekers to exercise caution while dealing with overseas employment offers. They recommend verifying the credentials of recruitment agencies, avoiding advance payments without proper documentation, and relying only on authorised channels for visa processing.

Victims of such frauds are encouraged to report incidents promptly to law enforcement agencies to enable timely investigation and prevent further cases.
