Iranian delegation member Mohammad Marandi has claimed that the team that travelled to Pakistan for talks with the US reportedly received direct threats and credible intelligence suggesting their aircraft could be attacked en-route to Islamabad, forcing a change in their return journey, as per reports.

According to reports citing sources, the aircraft was diverted from its original route and landed in Mashhad in Iran, after which the delegation including Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf continued their journey to Tehran by train, car and bus and this move was reportedly taken after following security warnings as they have received direct threats that the Iranian delegation’s plane could be attacked en-route to Islamabad.

Marandi reportedly said that Iran knew that the United States was deceitful, and the regime is blistering its military capabilities, while they are at the negotiations.

Talks between the United States and Iran to end the Middle East conflict may resume in Islamabad later this week, according to sources citing Iranian and Pakistani officials. While no date has been finalised, both sides have shown willingness to return after the first round of discussions ended without a breakthrough. Pakistan is coordinating with both countries, with the next meeting likely over the weekend.
