Etawah Police Accused of Forcibly Taking Emergency Doctor to SSP’s Home, CCTV Footage Sparks Outrage

Etawah, Uttar Pradesh: In a shocking case of alleged misuse of power, police personnel in Etawah reportedly removed an on-duty emergency doctor from the district hospital late on Wednesday night (September 17) to treat the ailing mother of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Brijesh Kumar Srivastava.

Dr. Rahul Babu, the emergency doctor on duty, claimed he was forcibly taken from the hospital despite objecting and citing his responsibilities towards other patients.

CCTV footage of the incident has gone viral, intensifying public anger and sparking protests by hospital staff and employee unions on Thursday.

According to reports, at around 11:00 PM, four policemen from Civil Lines police station entered the emergency ward and ordered Dr. Babu to accompany them to the SSP’s residence.

When he refused, citing his duties, he was allegedly manhandled, verbally abused, and his mobile phone was taken. Pharmacist Sharad Yadav, who was also present, backed Dr. Babu’s allegations.

The incident led to a two-hour disruption of OPD services as several medical associations, including the State Employees Joint Council, Diploma Pharmacist Association, and PMS Union, staged a protest. “An FIR must be filed against the guilty officers, or we will intensify our protest,” said Arvind Dhangar, State President of the Employees Union.

SSP Srivastava denied ordering the doctor’s removal, stating he had requested a private doctor and was unaware of the police forcibly bringing the emergency doctor. “Such actions are wrong and unacceptable. A detailed investigation is being conducted by the City Circle Officer,” Srivastava clarified.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Brijendra Kumar Singh intervened to calm the situation and resume hospital operations. He confirmed that a letter has been sent to the DGP and SSP requesting a formal case to be filed against the policemen involved.

OPD services resumed after a nearly two-hour disruption that affected dozens of patients. The incident has sparked a wider debate on police overreach and the safety of healthcare professionals on duty.
