Delhi High Court Quashes CIC Order on PM Modi’s 1978 BA Records

The Delhi High Court on Monday quashed the Central Information Commission (CIC)’s 2016 order that had directed Delhi University to allow inspection of records of all students who cleared the BA exam in 1978, the year Prime Minister Narendra Modi graduated.

The judgment, delivered by a bench headed by Justice Sachin Datta, ruled in favour of Delhi University’s plea challenging the CIC directive. Earlier, the court had scheduled the judgment for August 20, but it was deferred due to the non-availability of the judge, who was sitting in the UAPA Tribunal and not holding regular court sessions.

This ruling ends the CIC-mandated disclosure of historical student records from the year of PM Modi’s graduation, effectively siding with the university’s request to maintain the confidentiality of its archival records.
