Durand Cup 2025: Jamshedpur FC eye perfect finish, NEUFC target second win

Shillong: The Indian Super League (ISL) teams Jamshedpur FC (JFC) and NorthEast United FC (NEUFC) are set to resume their campaigns in the Durand Cup on Friday. The Men of Steel are looking to continue their winning streak, while the Highlanders aim to build on their initial victory.

In the day’s opening match, Jamshedpur FC will take on 1 Ladakh FC in their last group-stage encounter. The Men of Steel have had a strong start, securing victories against Tribhuvan Army FC (3-2) and Indian Army (1-0). With six points from two matches, they currently hold a strong lead at the top of Group C.

A draw will suffice for them to secure their spot in the quarter-finals as group leaders. Nevertheless, head coach Khalid Jamil will be eager for his team to maintain their winning momentum as they advance to the knockout stages, according to the ISL press release.

On the other hand, 1 Ladakh FC has only played one match so far, which ended in a 1-1 draw against Tribhuvan Army FC. They must secure a win to keep their hopes of qualification alive. A victory would open up the group significantly, and they will be aiming to cause an upset against the ISL team.

Meanwhile, in Group E, NorthEast United FC is preparing for an exciting clash against local rivals Shillong Lajong FC, a match that could significantly influence the group’s standings, as noted in the ISL press release.

The Highlanders kicked off their title defense with a strong 3-1 victory over Malaysia’s Armed Forces team, with Alaaeddine Ajaraie shining brightly by scoring a remarkable hat-trick. Head coach Juan Pedro Benali introduced several new players, and his team appeared sharp and self-assured as they embarked on their quest for consecutive titles.

However, Shillong Lajong FC has been even more formidable thus far. The I-League team leads the group after two impressive performances, including a 6-0 victory over the Malaysian side and a 3-1 win against Rangdajied United. With six points and a better goal difference, they approach this match with confidence and momentum.
