Uttarakhand: The Army swiftly carries out rescue operations after landslide close to Dharali

Uttarakhand: In a prompt response to a landslide that occurred near Dharali village in the Uttarkashi district on Tuesday, the Indian Army deployed 150 personnel who arrived at the scene within 10 minutes and immediately initiated rescue operations.

The incident took place around 1:45 PM, roughly 4 km from the Indian Army camp located at Harshil.

To date, 15-20 individuals have been successfully evacuated, with the injured receiving swift medical care at the Indian Army medical facility in Harshil. Search and rescue operations are still in progress, with all available resources being utilized to find and assist any remaining stranded individuals.

The Indian Army has indicated that the situation is under continuous observation and that they are fully dedicated to providing all necessary support to the affected civilians.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his heartfelt condolences to those affected by the landslide and cloudburst in Dharali.

In a post on X, PM Modi stated, “I express my condolences to the people impacted by this tragedy in Dharali, Uttarkashi. Additionally, I pray for the recovery of all victims. I have communicated with Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami to gather information about the current situation.”

“Under the guidance of the state government, relief and rescue teams are making every possible effort. We are leaving no stone unturned in assisting the people,” he added.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also assessed the situation and ordered the immediate deployment of central forces.

“I spoke with the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand regarding the flash flood incident in Dharali (Uttarkashi) and reviewed the situation. Three nearby teams from the ITBP have been dispatched to the area, and four teams from the NDRF are also on their way to the site. They will arrive shortly and commence rescue operations,” Shah mentioned in a post on X.

Three teams from the ITBP have already been sent to the impacted area, and four teams from the NDRF are on their way and are anticipated to join the efforts shortly.
