One of the individuals charged in the murder of Gopal Khemka in Bihar was taken into custody upon arriving at the industrialist’s funeral with a floral garland.
Additionally, it was revealed that three criminals had congregated near a tea stall in the Daldali area of Patna prior to executing the crime.
The perpetrators consumed tea there, after which one of them proceeded to Khemka’s residence. Sources also indicated that the primary suspect had been evading capture in a previous murder case involving an auto driver in Patna. Khemka, who was allegedly linked to the Bharatiya Janata Party, was fatally shot by an unidentified armed assailant outside his home in the Gandhi Maidan area at 11:40 PM on July 4, just as he was about to exit his vehicle. His remains were cremated at Gulbi Ghat in Patna on July 6, with a significant number of businessmen and industrialists present at the ceremony.
Following the incident, a CCTV video emerged capturing the moment Gopal Khemka was shot. CS Amrit Lal Meena, who had met with a delegation from the Bihar Industries Association the day before, stated that security measures will be implemented for the business community in accordance with established protocols.
“A delegation met with me. I have assured them of suitable security measures as per regulations. Some have also requested arms licenses, which are typically granted to businessmen,” Meena informed the news agency PTI.
The incident raises significant concerns. It has undoubtedly cast doubt on the law and order situation within the state. A BIA delegation, which I led, met with the Chief Secretary and the Bihar DGP on Saturday to thoroughly discuss the security issues faced by businessmen and industrialists. Both the Chief Secretary and the DGP have assured us that our concerns will be addressed promptly and prioritized,” he stated.
“There is currently no system in place for addressing such complaints. We used to hear about the era of Jungle-Raj. However, it seems that the present circumstances in the state are not much different. The government and relevant authorities must take necessary actions to enhance the situation.
