The United States tested a nuclear-capable missile on Tuesday night as the war in the Middle East entered its sixth day. The missile, called Minuteman III, was launched from “Vandenberg Space Force” Base in California. Officials said the test was routine and not directly connected to the current conflict with Iran.
The launch was carried out by the “Air Force Global Strike Command”. The missile was unarmed and used for testing purposes only. It was known as test vehicle GT-255 and carried two test re-entry vehicles.
The Minuteman III is an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM). It is capable of carrying nuclear warheads that can be up to 20 times more powerful than the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima during World War II.
The missile was launched from Vandenberg Space Force Base. According to officials, this test was part of a regular evaluation program to check the readiness, safety, and effectiveness of the United States’ nuclear weapons system.
Even though the test happened during the ongoing middle east conflict involving Iran, US officials clearly stated that the launch was planned earlier and was not related to the war.
The United States regularly conducts such missile tests to maintain its defense system and ensure national security.
