Ashwin Kumar’s Mahavatar Narsimha has set a new standard in Indian animation, achieving over Rs 100 crore in merely 11 days.
Debuting on July 25, the film started with Rs 2 crore and experienced a remarkable 15-fold increase by its tenth day. This mythologically themed narrative has not only enchanted viewers but has also outperformed high-budget films such as Kesari 2 and Jaat, solidifying its status as the highest-grossing animated film in India.
Drawing inspiration from the legendary fourth avatar of Vishnu, the film depicts Narsimha’s powerful rise to save Bhakt Prahlad from the oppressive Hiranyakashyap. With the Hindi version alone generating Rs 70 crore, the film shows no indications of slowing down and continues to attract audiences until significant releases like War 2 and Coolie hit theaters in mid-August.
Director Ashwin Kumar has disclosed that this is the inaugural installment in the Mahavatar Cinematic Universe, with promises of more animated adaptations of India’s rich mythological heritage.
