Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on Sunday dismissed the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) claims that names of people from Bangladesh, Nepal, and Myanmar were found during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar’s voter list.
Mocking the sources of the claim, Yadav said, “Ye sootra ko hum mootra samajhte hai” (We consider these sources to be rubbish). He compared these claims to fake rumors like “Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore being captured.”
Yadav pointed out that the last SIR was conducted in 2003 under the UPA government, and since then, multiple elections have taken place—including in 2014, 2019, and 2024—where the opposition lost by margins of 3 to 4 lakh votes. He sarcastically questioned if this meant foreigners voted for PM Modi in those elections.
Blaming the NDA for any irregularities, he suggested that if names of foreign nationals were added, then the ruling alliance is at fault, implying that their electoral wins might be fraudulent.
He strongly criticized the Election Commission, accusing it of acting like a political party’s unit, and called the ongoing SIR a “complete eyewash.”
Yadav also took aim at the Centre and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, saying that if fake names have been added, the responsibility lies with the government that has been in power since 2005.
