Senior Iranian politician Ali Larijani has alleged that individuals linked to the network of disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein could be planning a large-scale attack similar to the September 11 attacks and falsely blaming Iran for it.
In a post on X, Larijani claimed he had received information suggesting that “remaining members of Epstein’s network” were conspiring to stage an incident resembling the 9/11 attacks and attribute responsibility to Tehran. He said Iran fundamentally opposes such acts of terrorism and stressed that the country has no conflict with the American people.
Larijani also stated that Iran was currently defending itself against what he described as aggression by the United States and Israel. According to his statement, Tehran would continue resisting in order to “teach the aggressors a lesson”.
His remarks come amid rising tensions across the Middle East as the confrontation between Iran and its adversaries intensifies, accompanied by escalating rhetoric and military threats from both sides.
Larijani is reportedly regarded as one of Iran’s most influential political figures and has long been part of the country’s power structure. He served as Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, Iran’s parliament, from 2008 to 2020. He previously held several senior national security roles, including Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, where he was involved in negotiations related to Iran’s nuclear programme.
He has also served as a senior adviser to Iran’s leadership and continues to be an influential voice in the country’s political landscape.
