The United States has announced plans to build its first new oil refinery in five decades through a $300 billion deal with India’s energy giant Reliance Industries, marking what officials described as a major step toward strengthening American energy production.
US President Donald Trump said the refinery will be developed by America First Refining at the Port of Brownsville in Texas.
Announcing the project on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump described the investment as the largest deal in US history and a major boost for American workers and the country’s energy sector.
“America First Refining is opening the first new US oil refinery in 50 years in Brownsville, Texas. This is a historic $300 billion deal — the biggest in US history — a massive win for American workers, energy and the great people of South Texas,” Trump said.
He also thanked Reliance for its investment, calling the partnership an example of how policies aimed at reducing taxes and simplifying permits are attracting major investments into the United States.
According to Trump, the new refinery will supply fuel to domestic markets, strengthen national energy security and increase American energy production.
He added that the project is expected to generate thousands of jobs, significantly boost the regional economy and enhance the United States’ capacity for global energy exports.
The facility, to be built at the Port of Brownsville, is also expected to be designed as one of the cleanest refineries in the world, with a focus on modern technology and environmental standards.
Officials say the refinery will play a key role in supporting US energy dominance while bringing large-scale economic development to South Texas.
