Iran on Tuesday issued a stern warning to United States President Donald Trump as tensions between Washington and Tehran intensified over threats related to the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
The warning came from Iranian security official Ali Larijani, who dismissed Trump’s recent remarks as empty threats and said Iran would not be intimidated.
In a post on X, Larijani wrote that Iran had endured challenges from stronger adversaries in the past and would not back down now.
“Iran is not afraid of your empty threats. Even those greater than you could not eliminate the Iranian nation. Take care of yourself not to be eliminated,” he said.
Larijani’s statement came after Trump warned Iran against attempting to disrupt global oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial maritime corridor through which roughly one-fifth of the world’s crude oil supply passes.
Trump had earlier cautioned that any attempt by Iran to block the movement of oil tankers through the waterway would trigger a powerful military response from the United States. Posting on his social media platform Truth Social, he said Washington would retaliate “twenty times harder” if Tehran interfered with oil traffic in the region.
“If Iran does anything that stops the flow of oil within the Strait of Hormuz, they will be hit by the United States twenty times harder than they have been hit thus far,” Trump wrote, adding that “death, fire and fury” could follow if Iran escalated the situation.
The exchange reflects a further escalation in rhetoric between Washington and Tehran as tensions across the Middle East continue to rise amid the broader conflict involving Iran, Israel and their regional allies.
The confrontation intensified following reports that Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei was killed during strikes carried out by the United States and Israel late last month, according to Iranian sources. The reported attacks targeted military sites and strategic infrastructure in Iran and were followed by retaliatory missile and drone strikes by Iranian forces against Israeli and allied positions in the region.
