In a relief measure amid escalating tensions in West Asia and widespread flight disruptions, the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has directed hotels across the emirate to extend the stay of stranded guests, with the government bearing the additional costs, as per reports.

In an official communication dated February 28, 2026, reportedly addressed to general managers of hotel establishments, DCT Abu Dhabi said that guests who have reached their scheduled check-out date but are unable to travel due to circumstances beyond their control must be permitted to remain until they are able to depart.

The directive reportedly stated that the cost of the extended stay will be covered by the department, and hotels have been instructed to submit related invoices directly to DCT Abu Dhabi for reimbursement.

The move follows regional airspace restrictions and multiple flight cancellations linked to the ongoing Iran–Israel escalation, which aviation sources estimate has left around 20,000 tourists and transit passengers stranded across the UAE.

Officials said the measure aims to ease the financial burden on affected visitors and sustain confidence in Abu Dhabi’s tourism sector during the current geopolitical uncertainty.

Hotels have also been advised to coordinate with the department’s Business Continuity Team to ensure smooth implementation of the directive and provide necessary support to guests.
