An Iranian man has reportedly died by suicide after posting a video on social media urging US President Donald Trump to take action regarding Iran’s leadership and not to negotiate with Tehran.
The man, identified by Iranian media as Pouria Hamidi, was a resident of the southern port city of Bushehr. In a 10-minute video posted on his YouTube channel on February 5, Hamidi appealed directly to American leaders, calling attention to what he described as a violent crackdown on protests in Iran. The video, recorded in English, has since gone viral.
In the message, Hamidi claimed that tens of thousands of Iranians had been killed during recent unrest and warned that any agreement with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s government would amount to a betrayal of those who died. He urged foreign intervention, saying Iranians could not confront the regime without external support. He also expressed support for exiled Prince Reza Pahlavi as a potential leader of a transitional government and called on opposition groups abroad to unite.
As the video ended, Hamidi switched to Persian, appealing to Iranians to support one another and expressing hope for the country’s future. Iranian media later reported that Hamidi took his own life after posting the video.
His death comes amid intensified crackdowns by Iranian authorities following recent protests, even as Tehran continues diplomatic engagement with Washington over nuclear negotiations. In recent days, Iran has made multiple arrests of reformist figures and increased prison sentences for prominent dissidents, reflecting a dual approach of repression at home and diplomacy abroad.
