The United States has issued a sharp travel warning urging all American citizens currently in Iran to leave the country immediately, citing escalating unrest and heightened security risks nationwide.

According to the alert from the US Virtual Embassy in Tehran, security conditions in Iran are increasingly unstable, with intensified protests, widespread internet outages, road closures, and disruptions to public transportation and communications making daily life unpredictable.

The advisory warned that airlines are limiting or cancelling flights in and out of Iran, and US citizens are advised to have a departure plan that does not depend on assistance from the US government. If safe to do so, the advisory suggested considering leaving by land to neighbouring countries such as Türkiye or Armenia.

Officials also cautioned that those unable to leave immediately should seek a secure location, keep in contact with family, avoid demonstrations, and stay alert to rapidly changing conditions.

The US government reiterated that it does not maintain formal diplomatic relations with Iran; the Swiss embassy in Tehran acts as the protecting power for US interests, meaning direct consular support is limited.

This advisory comes amid broader regional tensions and internal instability in Iran, with protests continuing across major cities and communications infrastructure intermittently disrupted
