Newly released documents from the Jeffrey Epstein files have drawn attention to unverified claims referencing Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, contained in what are described as screenshots of self-emails allegedly written by Epstein in 2013.
According to the documents, released on Friday by the US Department of Justice as part of a fresh tranche of hundreds of thousands of files, Epstein allegedly wrote a lengthy message to himself on July 18, 2013. In the email, Epstein appeared to criticise Gates for ending their association and made a series of allegations concerning personal matters. Reports citing a document, the email included claims that Gates had contracted a sexually transmitted disease from “Russian girls” and had sought antibiotics to secretly give to his then-wife, Melinda Gates.
In one passage, Epstein allegedly wrote, “To add insult to the injury you them (sic) implore me to please delete the emails regarding your std, your request that I provide you antibiotics that you can surreptitiously give to Melinda and the description of your *****.”
As per the reports, earlier in the same message, Epstein reportedly said he was “dismayed beyond comprehension” by Gates’s decision to “disregard our friendship developed over the last six years”. He also claimed he had been drawn into what he described as a “severe marital dispute” between Bill and Melinda Gates.
In the email, Epstein allegedly wrote, “In my role as his right hand man I have been asked and wrongly acquiesced into participating in things that have ranged from the morally inappropriate, to the ethically unsound and have been repeatedly asked to do thing (sic) that get near and potentially over the line into the illegal…”
The allegations contained in the email have not been verified and remain unsubstantiated. They have been strongly disputed by context and by prior denials from Gates. No evidence has been produced to support the claims.
Epstein, who died in a New York City jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges, had previously been linked to Gates through meetings that Gates later said he regretted. Gates has long denied any wrongdoing in connection with Epstein.
The newly released documents also include multiple undated images showing Epstein and Gates together in various locations. In one photograph, Gates is seen smiling next to a woman whose face has been redacted.
Bill and Melinda Gates were married from 1994 until their divorce in 2021. Melinda Gates has said that Gates’s affairs and his association with Epstein were among the factors that led to the end of their marriage, without providing further details. As per the reports, she hired divorce lawyers in 2019 following concerns over Gates’s alleged dealings with Epstein.
In response to the latest claims, Bill Gates, through his philanthropic foundation, reportedly issued a strongly worded denial, describing the information as “absurd and completely false”.
