The Chinese court executed 11 members of same family from Malaysia due to their large-scale involvement in crimes like homicide, fraud, and gambling, as per reports.

In September 2025, the Ming family members were reportedly sentenced for various crimes, including homicide, illegal detention, fraud, and operating gambling dens by a court in China’s Zhejiang province.

The Mings were one of many clans that ran the town of Laukkaing, transforming an impoverished backwater town into a flashy hub of casinos and red-light districts.Their scam empire came crashing down in 2023, when they were detained and handed over to China by ethnic militias that had taken control of Laukkaing during an escalation in their conflict with Myanmar’s army.

Laukkai on Myanmar’s northeastern border, where these Ming family members conducted their criminal operations, was close to the Chinese border.

Because of this proximity, the Chinese citizens were directly targeted. According to the Chinese court, they defrauded Chinese citizens of approximately 10 billion Yuan (or $1.4 billion) by committing scams and gambling, noted the reports.

These activities also resulted in the reported deaths of 14 Chinese citizens.
