US President Donald Trump has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi inviting him to be part of a proposed international body called the “Board of Peace”, aimed at working towards lasting peace in the Middle East, particularly Gaza.
The letter, dated January 16, 2026, was shared publicly by the US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor.
In the letter addressed to the Prime Minister, President Trump said the Board of Peace would be central to efforts to solidify peace in the Middle East and to pursue what he described as a new approach to resolving global conflicts.
He referred to his announcement made on September 29, 2025, outlining a Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict, which includes a 20-point roadmap.
Trump stated that the plan had been embraced by world leaders across the Arab world, Israel and Europe, and noted that the United Nations Security Council had adopted Resolution 2803 on November 17, welcoming and endorsing the vision laid out in the plan.
According to the letter, the proposed Board of Peace is envisioned as a new international organisation and transitional governing administration.
It is expected to bring together a group of nations that would take responsibility for building what the letter terms “lasting peace” and shaping a secure future for the region. President Trump also indicated that partner countries and leaders would be convened in the near future as part of this initiative.
