Pakistan has finalised one of its largest-ever defence export agreements, signing a multi-billion-dollar arms deal with forces based in eastern Libya, as per reports. The agreement is being seen as a significant step in Islamabad’s efforts to strengthen defence exports and move towards a more self-reliant, export-driven economy.

According to reports, the deal is reportedly valued between $4 billion and $4.6 billion, making it a landmark transaction for Pakistan’s defence industry.

Reports suggest the agreement includes the supply of 16 JF-17 Thunder fighter jets and 12 Super Mushak trainer aircraft, along with a range of land, sea and air defence equipment. Deliveries are said to be scheduled over a period of nearly two and a half years, reinforcing Pakistan’s positioning as a comparatively cost-effective defence supplier capable of offering end-to-end military solutions.

Senior military officials from both sides reportedly concluded the agreement following high-level meetings. The deal is also expected to open a broader phase of strategic cooperation, reportedly covering areas such as training, technical support and the possibility of joint manufacturing in the future. Libyan representatives have described the partnership as long-term, while Pakistani authorities have so far made no public comment.

The reported deal has drawn international attention due to Libya being subject to a United Nations arms embargo. However, sources quoted in reports claim Pakistani officials maintain that the agreement complies with international regulations and reflects evolving diplomatic and security dynamics.

Analysts cited in reports say the agreement could provide a major boost to Pakistan’s defence exports while expanding its strategic footprint in North Africa.
