India has sharply rebuked Pakistan at the United Nations, accusing Islamabad of attempting to justify terrorism by cloaking it in the language of freedom struggle. In its formal address, New Delhi argued that such tactics undermine the global fight against terror and are inconsistent with the UN Charter’s principles.
During the latest session of the General Assembly, Pakistan raised the issue of Jammu & Kashmir and asserted support for “freedom-seeking” groups, while condemning Indian actions in the region. In response, India’s Permanent Representative emphasised that repeated references to the territory will neither validate Pakistan’s claim nor excuse its alleged support for cross-border violence and terror operations.
India’s statement stressed that the country views Jammu & Kashmir as an integral and inalienable part of India, and argued that Pakistan’s narratives at international forums serve to divert attention from its own record. According to New Delhi, Pakistan’s attempts to rebrand state-sponsored terrorism as a legitimate freedom movement represent a dangerous erosion of global norms.
The Indian delegation also cited Pakistan’s history of harbouring extremist organisations, arguing that genuine struggles for self-determination cannot be equated with groups that employ violence, target civilians or seek shelter under a state-sponsor model. The delegation warned that such conflation blurs the distinct boundaries between legitimate dissent and organised terror — and weakens the collective international response.
In its closing remarks, India appealed to all member states to remain vigilant against narratives that seek to legitimise terrorist acts under the guise of freedom fighting. The delegation urged the United Nations to uphold its foundational values of peace, human rights and the rule of law — rather than allow the manipulation of language to justify violence.
