Mithun Manhas Named New BCCI President: Salary, Allowances and Perks Explained

Former Delhi cricketer Mithun Manhas has been appointed as the new President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). His appointment was confirmed during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Board, making him only the third former cricketer to take up this top post after Sourav Ganguly and Roger Binny.

Manhas takes charge at a crucial time for Indian cricket, replacing Roger Binny, who recently completed his tenure. Rajeev Shukla had been handling the responsibilities as acting president until this announcement.

A Prestigious Role Without Salary

The position of BCCI President is honorary, which means there is no fixed monthly salary attached to the role. However, the office bearer receives substantial perks, allowances and travel entitlements for carrying out official duties, both in India and abroad.

Allowances and Perks

  • Daily Allowance in India: ₹40,000 per day for attending official BCCI meetings and events.
  • Daily Allowance Abroad: USD 1,000 per day (around ₹89,000) when representing the Board internationally.
  • Travel Allowance (Domestic): ₹30,000 per day for work-related travel within India.
  • Travel Abroad: First-class or business-class air tickets, with luxury hotel accommodation fully covered by the Board.

These allowances are designed to ensure that the President can carry out official responsibilities without financial burden, despite the honorary nature of the post.

Manhas Joins an Elite List

Mithun Manhas, a former domestic cricket stalwart, is best remembered for his contributions to Delhi cricket and his presence in the Indian Premier League (IPL). With this appointment, he joins an elite group of former players who have gone on to lead the BCCI.

His tenure is expected to focus on strengthening the Board’s global influence, enhancing grassroots cricket, and ensuring smooth coordination in the lead-up to major ICC tournaments.

Looking Ahead

The appointment of a former cricketer is being viewed positively within the cricket fraternity, as it ensures that the top decision-making body in Indian cricket continues to be guided by someone with first-hand experience of the game.

With the BCCI managing one of the world’s richest and most influential cricketing ecosystems, all eyes will now be on Mithun Manhas to see how he handles the responsibilities of this powerful office.
