In a major development, the parents of former IAS probationer Puja Khedkar — Dilip and Manorama Khedkar — have reportedly fled India amid a road rage and kidnapping case.
According to sources, a lookout notice had been issued against the duo after a shocking incident on September 13 on the Mulund-Airoli Road in Navi Mumbai. The controversy began when a concrete mixer truck brushed against Dilip Khedkar’s Toyota Land Cruiser.
Following the collision, Khedkar and his driver, Praful Salunkhe, allegedly forced the truck’s helper, Pralhad Kumar Chauhan, into their SUV and transported him to Khedkar’s Pune bungalow.
Police later traced and rescued Chauhan from the premises, where he was reportedly confined in a watchman’s room, served stale food, and threatened with dire consequences if he did not pay for the vehicle damage.
Investigations further revealed that Manorama Khedkar obstructed police officers during the rescue operation and even attempted to tamper with CCTV footage by giving an unidentified person access to the DVR stored in her bedroom.
The Rabale Police have registered a case under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (kidnapping) and later added Sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 127(7) (wrongful confinement for extortion), and 308(4) (extortion).
Pune Police have also booked Manorama Khedkar for obstructing police personnel. Meanwhile, Salunkhe, the family’s driver, was arrested by Navi Mumbai Police from Sindhkhed in Dhule on Friday.
Authorities are now intensifying efforts to locate the absconding parents.
