Chhattisgarh Headmistress Suspended After Coming to School Drunk, Viral Video Sparks Outrage

A shocking incident from Chhattisgarh’s Janjgir-Champa district has gone viral, showing a government school headmistress arriving at school drunk.

The incident occurred at the Government Primary School in Levai village, Baloda block, where 45-year-old headmistress Heera Porte reportedly tried to take the mid-day meal but was so inebriated that she tripped and fell onto a table, even resting her feet on it. Witnessing her condition, students assumed school hours were over and went home.

Villagers filmed the entire episode, which quickly spread across social media, sparking outrage. In the video, Porte can be seen mumbling incoherently in Hindi and English and even carrying bread in her pocket.

When a villager questioned her saying, “Does it look nice to be drunk inside school premises?” she simply replied, “Thank you.” Locals revealed that Porte had been attending school intoxicated for the past few days, severely impacting students’ education. Several complaints had already been filed against her earlier.

According to her family, Porte turned to alcohol following her husband’s death, despite repeated attempts by her parents to counsel her.

Following the viral video, Collector Janmejay Mahobe ordered an investigation by SDM, DEO, and BEO officials. Statements from teachers, students, and villagers confirmed the allegations.

Consequently, on September 20, Porte was suspended for violating civil service conduct rules, and her headquarters was shifted to the Baloda Block Education Officer’s office during the suspension period.

Additionally, the Collector issued a show-cause notice to the Block Education Officer and BRC Baloda for negligence in monitoring the school.

Authorities emphasized that strict measures will be taken against any staff who harm the education system or the future of students.

This marks the first such case reported in the current academic session in Chhattisgarh, raising serious concerns about teacher behavior and accountability in the state.
