Mumbai: The city woke up to light to moderate rain on Tuesday morning as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for Mumbai and adjoining areas, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rainfall over the next few days.
Monday’s intense showers prompted the renewed alert, signaling another wet spell for Mumbaikars who had just seen a short respite from downpours.
According to official data, Mumbai recorded 46.18 mm of rainfall in the island city, 27.62 mm in the eastern suburbs, and 38.79 mm in the western suburbs over the 24 hours ending Tuesday morning, with the heaviest showers between 6 am and 7 am.
Despite the rain, no major traffic disruptions or waterlogging were reported, and suburban train services experienced only minor delays of 5 to 10 minutes on the Central and Harbour lines, while Western line services remained unaffected.
The IMD has forecast generally cloudy skies and moderate rain for Wednesday and Thursday, with temperatures expected to hover around 30°C during the day and 24°C at night.
However, a fresh spell of heavy rain is expected on Friday, September 26, and residents have been advised to remain cautious. The weekend is likely to bring moderate rain but no official weather warning has been issued yet.
